This policy explains what information TrainKothay (the trainkothay.com website and the TrainKothay Android and iPhone apps) collects, why, and the choices you have. TrainKothay is an independent service and is not affiliated with Bangladesh Railway.

Information we collect

You can use TrainKothay without an account. We do not ask for your name, phone number, email address, contacts, photos or files. We collect:

Usage information: the pages and screens you open, the trains and stations you search for or follow, and when you use the service.
Device information: a random identifier created on your device the first time you use TrainKothay, the device type, operating system version, screen size and, on the website, the browser.
IP address: received with every request and used to estimate your approximate area (city or district).
Location, only if you allow it: your device's location, used to show the stations and live trains nearest to you. While the app or website is open, this position is also sent to our server with the usage information above. The apps never use your location in the background.
On-board sharing, only if you turn it on: when you tell us you are on a train and choose to share your position, we receive your GPS position while sharing is on, and use it to place that train for every passenger.
Reports and messages: train position reports you submit, and anything you write to us by email.

How we use it

We use this information to run TrainKothay: to show trains, stations and positions near you, to improve live train positions and delay estimates, to understand which features and places the service is used in, to keep the service secure and to block abuse and automated traffic. We do not use it for advertising and we do not build advertising profiles.

Sharing

We do not sell your information or share it with advertisers or data brokers. Positions from on-board sharing are shown only as the train's position, never with anything that identifies you. Our hosting and network providers process data on our behalf to run the service. Maps are loaded from OpenStreetMap tile servers, which receive your IP address as part of each map request. We may disclose information if the law requires it.

How long we keep it

We keep usage and location information only as long as it is needed for the purposes above, after which it is deleted or kept only in aggregated form that does not identify any device.

Your choices

You can refuse or turn off location at any time in your phone's or browser's settings, and everything else in TrainKothay keeps working. You can stop on-board sharing at any time. Clearing the app's storage or uninstalling it removes its identifier from your device. To ask us to delete the information linked to your device, email us; we will reply within 30 days.

Security

All traffic between the apps, the website and our servers is encrypted with HTTPS.

Children

TrainKothay is a general-audience travel service and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update it on this page and change the date above.
